Epic Pose

This morning on my way to work, I was wondering what to draw next, when I saw this man standing in such an epic pose that I had no doubt he was next. Standing on the Canning Town platform, looking at the horizon as if saying 'go on! make me a leftling!'. So I did.

Sad Ladies

I have to confess I've been horribly busy lately so I haven't done any new leftlings. I'll try to keep up. Promise! (not that anyone is keeping track LOLZ)

Sunny day

Following the steps of rainy day I decided to try its opposite. Personally I don't think I achieved the charisma of the first one, so if you allow me I will try again. I do like it! I just think it could be better.

Sunflower

Not long ago me and my wife planted a couple of sunflowers from seeds. I've never done this before and until today I am still surprised of how fast and tall they grow, a couple of days ago one of them decided to finally stop growing and bloom. They're amazing. There's still one that's nearly a meter taller than me.

Mr. X

Today I went for speed, it took me about 2 or 3 minutes to finish up this guy I made up. I remember seeing recently someone somewhere with a concave nose-to-chin shape like that, so that's where I started. I'm sure I can beat that time.

Team building exercise

Yesterday on my way to work I saw the most organized group of crows I've ever seen. One of them was crossing the pedestrian path with a bag of crisps in its beak while the rest watched on the other side waiting for him. When he reached them the all gathered round and started pecking on the sealed bag. How did they know there was food inside is beyond me. It was kind of creepy!

what's this all about?

Years ago I realized that if tried to draw with my left hand wonderful things happened. Since then I've explored the technique in both personal and commercial projects. The drawings have made it to a number of printed and online publications. I've finally yielded to the blog fever and decided to give them a home here.

In other words: I am right handed. I draw like this with my left hand.

    ...

the technique

My technique changes from time to time, depends on circumstances, the mood and what I'm after but here's a rough step through to give you an idea:

I've found the best results happen when I jump straight to ink. With a thin pen I draw the basic structure of the composition. With a sharp pencil I add some more texture to give it some depth. Sometimes I cheat by keeping my left hand still in midair and moving the sketchbook instead. Since the core of the drawing has been done I pass around the outline with a thick pen quickly with my right hand. Finally I scan the drawingand when I think it needs it I add some textures in Photoshop.
